I'm so excited that I finally got another rare piece for my Hedy collection.  It's the cutest tiniest little plate. I haven't seen these as 49er pieces, I've only seen other teams, but not for all teams, I'm sure they do exist, but probably now part of other collections.  I saw 2 of these for sale on Ebay and had to pick one up, the other tray was bought up quickly.

The size of this tray was always stated to be 4"x4", but (as you can see from the picture) it's the slightly larger than a standard credit card and up along a ruler, it actually measures 3 1/2"x 3 1/2".  I moved the tray slightly before I shot the above picture, thus it's not entirely accurately on the ruler. 

When the Hedy collection was originally sold, this tiny little tray came with a metal dual football shaped cigarette holder.  Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of those holders being sold with the trays or even alone.

One day, I will have a complete set and will able to share with the entire 49ers fan base, ultimately, with hopes to add to the Levi's Stadium Museum if/and when they decided to change a few displays up.

Again,  anyone who knows where I can pick up some of the dual trays, 6"x6" trays, metal cigarette holder or the metal football shaped swizzle stirrer would be greatly appreciated.  Go Niners ! ! !

San Francisco Here We Come

The new 49ers Levi Stadium is going to have a museum, and I've you're familiar with my blog you've  probably have seen the TV interview I did with ABC7 here in Los Angeles, during the visit with Jerry Walker the 49ers Team Archivist.  I don't have any of the Game Worn players jerseys and equipment from the past and that is what the main displays in the museum as they open this June.

But, they decided that they would like over a dozen of the oldest pennants, an old 1950's Yell-a-phone and a picture of the 1971 team photo (tray).  They want to make a copy of the photo since they don't have a copy of the 1971 team (odd, but hey glad to help). 

I'm so honored to be apart of my team and have part of my collection hanging in their museum.

Hedy Glass Update - Shocking News - - - (At Least For Me)

For all the time I've been collecting Hedy glassware of the 49ers, I was always told that there were only 3 types of glasses, plus then the tumbler style.  So figuring I had all 3 types I thought nothing about the sizes when I would see these glasses on either Ebay or other sites for sale, I figured I have them all.  Boy was I WRONG!!!

Last week I saw that someone was selling 4 of the 3.5" tall glasses.  My first thought was, "Oh, I have that".  Then, something in the back of my mind said, "...you should check the sizes of the glasses you DO have".  So I did.  I was shocked, I didn't have 3.5" I had the 3.75" and the 2.75".  I thought maybe I'm mis-measuring the glasses.  On a spur of the moment, I bought the glasses figuring if I overbought a glass that I already had, I'd sell them.

The glasses showed up today and 'Wella!', sure enough I didn't have this one.  So for those who said there are only 3 glass styles and one 1 tumbler style, you're wrong!  Here's a picture to prove it.

Officially, I now know there are 4 and here are their sizes;
Glass 1)   4" x 3.75"
Glass 2)   3.5" x 3.5"
Glass 3)   3" x 2.75"
Glass 4)   2 3/8th" x 1 15/16th"

I've seen these called Whiskey to Shot glasses, I don't get caught up in names, just sizes from now on.

I'm sooooo excited to get the new set of glasses to add to the collection.  I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning.  

I'm adding this information to my older Hedy post as well, so forgive the duplicate info.

Anyone know of any other Hedy glasses, plates, etc.  Please let me know.  I'm trying to make an entire collection of the 49ers, and I'm sure other collectors of other teams would like to know all the different glasses, plates, carafes, pitchers, etc... that are apart of the entire collection.

1970's & 80's 49ers Hand Puppet cheering fans

Several years back, one of my sisters who lives in Oregon saw something I haven't collected yet and sent it to me.  A 49er fan hand puppet.  I had no idea that something like this existed.  So as I searched around I found that there were various dolls or puppets that cheered. So, I've decided to share a few that I've collected.

1970's Cheering 49er hand puppet

First I have a circa 1970's Red uniform hand puppet.  When I say hand puppet, I mean you slip your hand inside the jersey and two of your fingers slip into a mechanical holster and then you're able to control his hands/arms to reach out and punch, or wave this 49ers pennant.  Some descriptions call these puppets punching puppets, I just reference them as hand puppets, since your hands control them.  Both sides of his helmet has scrapped SF logos, but still obvious he's a 49ers fan.

This 1980's hand puppet has some 49ers font used during the 1984 Superbowl era, so that's why I've dated him in the 80s.  None of these puppets or dolls have any real distinct markings to date them.  This guy has WAY TOO MUCH MAKEUP!.  Blue eye mascara?  Come on.   But you've got to love his turtleneck, awesome dude.

This cherub faced 1960's old miner doll has seen better days, but truly a remarkable find.  He's carrying a small 1960's logo styled pennant (I actually have it's bigger brother hanging on my rafters here in the 49ers den).  He has a hard plastic face with awesome color, for it's age.  Unfortunately, his feet, which look like rolled paper, are probably missing his boots or whatever miners wore in that day.  But still he's part of the mini cheering section in the den.

America's Sweetheart 49ers Cheerleader Doll

 I'm not one to have dolls, for most guys a GI Joe was the closest thing we got to a doll, and even then it was known as an "action figure".  I have hundreds of 49er Starting Lineup and McFarlane action figures, but not dolls.

For my collection I made an exception.  I recently saw this America's Sweethearts 49er Cheerleader Doll for sale and thought about the young girls and women that are fans of the 49ers too and thought, "...Ok, you should get it...not everything is guys and hard hitting in football".  So true.  There are beauties on the sideline with cheers ringing out and dances being danced.  So I pay homage to them with this "Doll".

As far as dating this doll, I'm figuring 1990's to recent,  due to first, the condition of the doll and box, practically new.  But also the logo had the darker red in the logo which was part of the logo change back in 90's until to 2000's.  This doll comes with a certificate, Pom Poms and keeps her hair very neat with a hair net, odd to see a doll with a hair net, but hey what ever works right?

Rare 1974 Tudor 49ers Strategy Jr. Football Game – NEW

Tudor Games has made a few items that I’ve collected these past several years.

The Game, “Strategy Jr.” is a football board game that Tudor made and is up-to-date with the most recent “1974 NFL Rules Changes”, cool I need those new rule changes.  (I'd love to compare them to 2012 rules changes).

The first reason I bought the game was because my hero, John Brodie, was on the cover.  Then once I received it, I realized that it was still in it’s original shrink wrap with 3 different price tags on it. I guess it wasn't a quick seller.

Now, I’m glad I bought it, I love the look and that fact that it’s NEW old stock, very cool.

1960’s 49ers Hartland Lineman and Running Back Figures

Hartland figures in MINT condition can fetch a pretty penny.  Even restoration carries a hefty price, but as for me, I wanted some, but wanted mine to be different.  So…

The first two figures I bought were older and without a stand for each,  no numbers stenciled on, yet I loved the fact that they were both so rustic.  I had a stand of a football field from one of my larger McFarlane Figures (I’ll be writing later about the TON of 49ers McFarlane's I have) that had already been opened.  So, I customized the field to have a lineman in the front, making room for the running back coming down field with the “Rock”.

My second running back (seen in the front right of the picture) was a great pick up.  It’s in much better shape than the first two, but is without a stand as well.  It's something I’ll eventually get.  I love these figures because of the age, the classic late 50’s early 60’s uniform looks and the Vintage style of all three together.

 

Recently, (June 2023), I found a Hartland figure complete for a very reasonable price, so I picked it up to add to the collection.  Outside of vintage dust on his stand, he's in great shape.  Love these figures for the historical value.

1950's - 1960's 49ers Vintage Stadium Blanket

Rare 1950's or 1960's Vintage 49ers Pendleton Stadium Blanket

Three years ago I saw a posting for this Vintage 49ers stadium blanket and no one else was interested in it.  I immediately picked it up and loved the fact that it has the old "Shootin' 49er Guy" and it was sealed away in this plastic zipper pouch.  Plus, it has a heavy duty vinyl seat cushion that comes stuffed in the middle of the blanket.  Even though it's a stadium blanket, I love the Pendleton tag on the side of the blanket that says, "Robe In A Bag".  The colors on the big emblem in the middle are bright and vibrant.  The NFL logos are missing fine detail, but other than that it's an awesome piece and in great shape for it's age.

I've collected 3 of these 1960's Johnny Hero uniforms in their original packaging.  I took one out and put it on a 1960's GI Joe figure, cuz that was what they were made to go onto.  These uniforms came complete with the following;

1 - Uniform Jersey (Team colors)
1 - Team Logo'd helmet
1 - Uniform pants (Team colors)
1 pair sock liners
1 pair socks (Team colors)
1 pair cleats
1 football (hard plastic)

Now for some reason we all called these Johnny Hero, yet the packaging clearly says "Olympic Hero", go figure.

1950's or 1960's Vintage 49ers Lights

It being the 4th of July, I figured it would be appropriate to write about my lights...not firework lights, but 49er lights.  Over the years I've been looking for those "Odd" and vintage 49ers items.  Through my searches, I came across two odd looking lights.

The first light is a 8.5"x11" metal framed "Kezar Stadium".  As any well versed 49ers fan knows, Kezar Stadium was the first stadium of the 49ers until 1971 when the 49ers moved to Candlestick Park.  But I'm rather suspect of this light because the encasement seems to be of rather new metal, but the design of the "Kezar Stadium" front is the 1960's style "Shootin' 49ers Guy".  So, I picked it up anyway, because of it's odd style.

The other light is probably from the 1950's.  It measures 8"x 10"  and has a heavy base, with the base graphics saying "Go, Go, Go 49'ers!" and a 49ers player in a silver helmet.  It has an thumb-wheel switch that turns on the light in the base and a center metal post which slowly spins around.  There was nothing attached to the metal post. I figured at one point it was one of those rotating beer signs, but the sign doesn't have evidence that anything was attached.  So I decided to attach two of my older mini pennants to the post.  Now the pennants slowly rotate around.  First the yellow then the red and so on.

Another reason I strongly believe this is a 1950's advertising sign/lamp is because the players helmet is what the Niners helmets looked like back in 1955 or so. I'm pretty certain that this is from that mid-1950's period. Regardless, I love these odd little 49ers lamps, old or not.

Mounted up on the top corner of the rail that goes all around my den, I have two metal wall hangings made of either copper of brass, I think they're copper.  They both have embossed or raised insignias of the NFL, and then the 49ers logo on a football. One has the "Shootin' 49er" guy used on promo items from the late 50's to the early 60's. The other has just the SF on the helmet. They measure 20"x16" each.  Where exposed metal isn't, it's painted with a flat black paint.  At first glance you think these were handmade, but once I had purchased them, I noticed one or two on Ebay, so they must have been produced via a limited run...but very RARE.  I love the detail of both of these. Now because the Niners SF logo wasn't used on their helmets until 1962, these are probably from 1962 thru 1966.  Just a guess though.

I was told that they were given to players in the early 60's as an appreciation type gift.  They both had old cheap wooden-ed frames on them but since the frames were falling apart, I took them off.  I could get more robust frames later when I want to.  I love these two pieces because their odd and I love the old, odd 49er stuff and these definitely fit the bill.

49ers Pennents - Late 40's to Present

I have close to 200 different San Francisco 49ers pennants.  Now some aren't all 49ers, some are just the name of "San Francisco", and they were old and I liked them, and other pennants are of other teams who share the pennant with the Niners.  But if it involves the 49ers, I have it, or want it.  My den has a "A" shaped wood beam roof, so it made it easy to figure how to hang the pennants, so a ladder, staple gun and each pennant in it's own sleeve made it easy to get most of them hung.  The small or mini pennants have yet to be displayed.  Here are most of the large pennants.  I counted 192 pennants, and some are variants of a type (IE: a different color, etc..)  These are the ones at my home,  I have duplicates at my office or a few that haven't been hung yet, still in storage.  I'm still collecting and if you have one that I don't have, send me a note, especially if you want to sell it.
